Trans Day of Remembrance Memorial
Vigil – Sunday, November 18, 4 pm, Village of Haverstraw Town Hall
Meet in front of Haverstraw Village Hall, 40 New Main St., Haverstraw, NY for a public memorial vigil. Community members will read the names of the trans and non-binary people murdered this year to both remember each individual and demand an end to the violent oppression of transgender people. Then, we will walk across the street to the Haverstraw Community Center.
Transgender Day of Remembrance Community Action Workshop
Sunday, November 18, after the Memorial at Haverstraw Community Center
Join the Rockland County Pride Center for a Community Action Workshop immediately following the memorial at the Haverstraw Community Center. The Pride Center invites participants to create a memorial wreath of paper flowers, and we encourage allies to donate to the “Supply Drive for Sylvia’s Place: An LGBTQ Homeless Youth Shelter”. There will also be refreshments, including vegan and kosher options.
In order to make this workshop a safe space for all our community members, we ask that attendees not take photos/videos and that members of the press not attend. There will be designated Photo Zones set up in the space for folks to take pictures. Please do not take pictures or video outside of these special areas.
**There will be public speeches as well as a private social and healing space to follow with a dedicated youth area.**
