Preparing Your First Born To Leave Home For College

That moment when you’re building a Pride Center while preparing your first born to leave home for college. (Cue the music…) Oh, the feels!  From board meetings to college visits. Frankly, it’s surreal.  And it has me thinking about all who had a hand in getting my son, Michael, where he is today: Rockland organizations who share our family’s values of inclusion, equality, and community pride — places like the Montessori Center of Nyack and River SchoolNyack Center, and the Nyack Public Schools Athletic Department.  As Michael begins the next phase of his life studying athletic training, I begin mine, being part of an incredible team of people who value equality and justice for all, with no exceptions. (This has all the makings of a feel-good family movie.  ATTN: Jonathan Demme.) So, as I trek down this new road, it feels knowing the Rockland County Pride Center will be part of someone else’s growing-up story.  Maybe change isn’t so bad, after all. (Cue David Bowie…)
